Hamnet is a 2025 biographical historical tragedy film directed by Chloé Zhao, who co-wrote the screenplay with Maggie O’Farrell, based on the 2020 novel by O’Farrell. The film dramatises the family life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway as they cope with the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet. It stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal as Agnes and William, alongside Emily WatsonJoe Alwyn, and Noah Jupe in supporting roles.

For the second time in January, as there were more than 10 participants to see ‘Hamnet‘, FGB took advantage of a reduced price.

The comments after watching the film were diverse. Some had loved it, others found it a bit too long but everyone agreed that the lead actors were very good, that the atmosphere of the period was well rendered and that the story was very moving although some found it too sad. The landscapes pictured in the film were also appreciated for their beauty or relevance as far as the 16th century London, especially the Globe were filmed.
