Each year, FGB celebrates SAINT PATRICK’S DAY, not always on the official date but the day of the Tuesday-Chat, nearest to MARCH 17th. The topic of the Tuesday-Chat relates to St Patrick’s and the hard work is followed by a visit to the PUB.
2024
In March 2024, it was on Tuesday 19th, 2 days after the official date, that 20 people met at the pub, The Birdland, exchanging Irish jokes over beers and snacks. The participants of the Tuesday- Chat, most clad in green, had previously virtually tried the COLECANNON RECIPE and visited DUBLIN TEMPLE BAR , studying texts in their usual room at the MdA , especially decorated for the occasion! As usual, everyone had a jolly good time !
2023
This year, 3 days in advance on the official date, on Tuesday March 14th, we talked about Saint Patrick’s day during the Tuesday-Chat with the T-C members and then, went to the PUB, ‘the Birland’, from 7 p.m where other people FGB joined us. Good atmosphere and good beer !
2022
Virtual trip to Ireland and back to the pub on Tuesday March 15th.
At last ! Thanks to the withdrawal of most sanitary measures, FGB was allowed to organise its Tuesday Chat with 20 people present to talk about Ireland and St Patrick’s. First ANNIE BLANCHET gave an interesting presentation in English with photos of her trip to Ireland in 2019. She insisted on Northern Ireland where few FGB people had been, showing us pictures of BELFAST – the Titanic Museum, the Murals, the Giants’Causeway … After Annie’s talk, 11 of us went to the pub ‘The Birdland’ where we carried on talking about St Patrick’s, answering a quiz over a glass of beer, of course. We all spent an enjoyable moment.
2021
St Patrick’s Green Walk around the Auron Lake on March 17th
In 2020, FGB had to cancel its traditional St Patrick’s meeting at the pub as the lockdown due to the pandemic of Covid imposed by the government had just been announced on March 17 th. ‘No beer today, FGB has gone away …’. We didn’t get a chance to postpone the event as pubs and restaurants remained closed for months !
So, on March 17th 2021, as we couldn’t meet in a pub, FGB decided to organise a « St PATRICK’S GREEN WALK » around the lake Auron in Bourges for the participants of the Tuesday-Chat-Group.
A small group of hikers, wearing green, masked and keeping mandatory distancing (to comply with the sanitary measures) took part in a 6 km « St Patrick’s Pilgrimage » to their great pleasure of getting the opportunity to meet up again.
